Mixxx is just one of many 3rd-party Automation/Playout software programs that you can use in conjunction with Live365. With Mixxx, you can broadcast live to your Live365 staton. Mixxx is free and open source DJ software for Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems.

Note: When downloading the Mixxx software take note of which version you are using (32 or 64 bit) because that will influence the type of LAME files you will need to download. The instructions below reflect the Windows OS version and the Mac Version.

Tip: You may have access to 1 or more Live365 stations. See our Dashboard Navigation article to learn more about selecting the station which you want to work with. Once on that Station's
Overview page, you can then follow along.

Here are step-by-step setup instructions to set up Mixxx

  1. Download and install a copy of Mixxx.
  2. Open your Live365 Dashboard (Login Required).
  3. Select Streaming from the left column Station Menu. Locate the LiveDJ area as shown below.
Please leave this window open as you will need to input this information into the Mixxx interface. For accuracy, it is recommended that you Copy (ctrl c) and Paste (ctrl p) this information directly into the required fields.
  4. Open Mixxx. Then, in Mixxx, locate the Preferences under the Options menu.
  5. Locate the Live Broadcasting option in the Mixxx Preferences window.Select Live Broadcasting. You will see a pane to the right. This is where you will add the information from the Encoder Settings window in the Sources → LiveDJ section of the current station menu. To avoid any typos, we highly recommend that you copy/paste the information directly from the Live365 Dashboard.Make sure the Mixxx server connection type is set to Icecast2, and set the appropriate encoder type, bitrate, format and channels.

For optimal audio quality and streaming performance, we recommend configuring the AAC or MP3 codec to be close to the bitrate you've selected as output within the Live365 Dashboard.

To adjust your Live365 station’s preferred output format and bitrate simply navigate to StreamingEncoding and then ensure your encoder aligns with those specifications. One requirement is that the sample rate must always be set to 44.1 kHz.

If you are uncertain about what encoding settings to use, please refer to the following blog article for additional information and guidance: Understanding Radio Streaming Formats & Bitrates

Click the Enable Live Broadcasting checkbox at the top of the window in Mixxx.
  6. After all the settings are done you will need to download an MP3 encoder as Mixxx does not own rights to redistribute the MP3-Lame encoder. Their instructions for doing so on a Windows PC can be found here.

In order to use Mixxx for LiveDJ mode on a Mac, you'll need to install the correct Mac Version of the LAME Files. Step 7 and are for PC users, so you'll want to follow the external instructions for macOS and then come back here for Step 12.
To activate MP3 streaming on Mac OSX, the following steps are necessary:
    1. Download LAME 3.98.4 Intel (OS X 10.5+ 32-bit & 64-bit) or LAME 3.98.4 PowerPC (OS X 10.5 32-bit).
    2. Unpack & install the archive.

The Mixxx team provides additional instructions for setting up LAME on macOS. Please visit this section of their guide for more info.Next, from the RAREWARES page, you will need to add the correct files from the version of Mixxx you have downloaded (either 32 or 64 bit).
  7. When you have downloaded the .zip file, open the file and move the files into your Mixxx folder.
  8. Close Mixxx and fully restart the computer. Some operating systems require a full shutdown and boot cycle in order for the libraries to be registered.
  9. Once the computer reboots, re-open Mixxx. You will now be able to broadcast live by clicking Enable Live Broadcasting option under the Mixxx Options menu.

When you enable the live broadcasting, you will immediately start to broadcast live. You will override any scheduled Events and AutoDJ currently playing in the Live365 Dashboard. The Live365 AutoDJ system may be used as a fallback, in the event your  application crashes or goes offline.

Please remember that even when you are broadcasting live, your files must transmit the correct metadata for copyrighted content (Artist - Title). If you are part of the Ad Revenue Share Program , you need to also manually insert our ad trigger files.
