First, you'll need to make sure that the uploaded files are encoded to meet Live365's technical requirements. For more information on this, please read What audio file formats does Live365 support? The main points are that the files need to be .mp3 or .m4a, encoded at 128 kbps bitrate, and have a sample rate of 44.1 kHz. Also, be sure the channel mode is "Joint Stereo" and that the bit rate mode is "constant" (CBR), not "variable" (VBR).

Assuming an average song length of 4 minutes and a bitrate of 128 kbps, 50 GB of tracks will hold approximately 12,500 songs. 50 GB of storage is the amount of storage that comes with the Live365 Broadcast 2 package.

Our calculated average number of tracks that you can store, when assuming 128 kbps (mandatory) and a 4-minute length (average):

  • On the Broadcast 1 package, you get 25 GB of storage, which is approximately 6,250 songs.
  • On the Broadcast 3 package, you get 100 GB of storage, which is approximately 25,000 songs.
  • On the Broadcast 4 package, you get 200 GB of storage, which is approximately 50,000 songs.
  • On the Broadcast 5 package, you get 500 GB of storage, which is approximately 125,000 songs.

How we calculated these averages

As a rule of thumb, 1Mb is equal to 1 minute of music at 128 kbps. This equates to a 50 GB library holding about 50,000 minutes of music. Of course, in some genres (like punk), the tracks can be shorter and average 1 to 3 minutes. Other genres (freestyle jazz, ambient, or trance) might have tracks that are considerably longer and average 12 to 20 minutes. This natural variation will impact the exact number of files that your subscription will allow you to store on our servers.
