Mixxx is just one of many 3rd-party Automation/Playout software programs that you can use in conjunction with Live365. With Mixxx, you can broadcast live to your Live365 stream. Mixxx is free and open source DJ software for Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems.

NOTE: When downloading the Mixxx software take note of which version you are using (32 or 64 bit) because that will influence the type of LAME files you will need to download. The instructions below reflect the Windows OS version and the Mac Version.

First, make sure you are editing the station where you want to make these changes. Highlight and click the station name to select it. If you are unfamiliar with how to navigate this part of Live365, please see this help article which describes dashboard navigation.

Once you have selected the appropriate station, you will be taken to that Station's Menu page. From this page, you will be able to navigate and make changes and adjustments to your station.

Here are step-by-step setup instructions to set up Mixxx:

Step 1) Download and install a copy of Mixxx.

Step 2) Open your Live365 Broadcaster. (Login Required)

Step 3) Select Sources -> Live DJ from the left column Station Menu. Locate the "Encoder Settings" area as shown below:

Please leave the "Encoder Settings" window open as you will need to input this information into the Mixxx interface. For accuracy, it is recommended that you Copy (ctrl c) and Paste (ctrl p) this information directly into the required fields.

Step 4) Open Mixxx. Then, in Mixxx, locate the “Preferences," under the "Options" menu.

Step 5) Locate the “Live Broadcasting” option in the Mixxx Preferences window.

Step 6) Select “Live Broadcasting.” You will see a pane to the right. This is where you will add the information from the "Encoder Settings" window in the Sources -> LiveDJ section of the current station menu.

To avoid any typos, we highly recommend that you copy/paste the information directly from the Live365 Dashboard.

Live365 Server IP/Hostname = ingest.live365.com

Live365 Username = In the Login textbox enter "source" (without the quotation marks).

Live365 Port = Port

Live365 Mount Name = Your station's mount. Make sure to keep the forward slash "/" before the mount point name. Or simply copy/paste it from the Dashboard as is.

Live365 Password = Password

Make sure the Mixxx server connection type is set to "Icecast2," and set the appropriate encoder type, bitrate, format and channels. Click the "Enable Live Broadcasting" checkbox at the top of the window in Mixxx.

Step 9)  After all the settings are done you will need to download an MP3 encoder as Mixxx does not own rights to redistribute the MP3-Lame encoder. Their instructions for doing so on a Windows PC can be found here.

In order to use Mixxx for LiveDJ mode on a Mac, you'll need to install the correct Mac Version of the LAME Files. Step 10 and 11 are for PC users, so you'll want to follow the external instructions for macOS and then come back here for Step 12.

To activate MP3 streaming on Mac OSX, the following steps are necessary:

  1. Download LAME 3.98.4 Intel (OS X 10.5+ 32-bit & 64-bit) or LAME 3.98.4 PowerPC (OS X 10.5 32-bit).
  2. Unpack & install the archive.

The Mixxx team provides additional instructions for setting up LAME on macOS. Please visit this section of their guide for more info.

Step 10) Next, from the RAREWARES page, you will need to add the correct files from the version of Mixxx you have downloaded (either 32 or 64 bit).

Step 11) When you have downloaded the .zip file, open the file and move the files into your Mixxx folder.

Step 12) Close Mixxx and fully restart the computer. Some operating systems require a full shutdown and boot cycle in order for the libraries to be registered.

Step 13) Once the computer reboots, re-open Mixxx. You will now be able to broadcast live by clicking "Enable Live Broadcasting" option under the Mixxx "Options" menu.

NOTE: To view the Mixxx 2.2 user manual click here.

When you enable the live broadcasting, you will immediately start to broadcast live. You will override any scheduled Events and AutoDJ currently playing in the Live365 Broadcaster. Live365 Broadcaster may be used as a fallback, in the event your Mixxx application crashes or goes offline.

Please remember that even when you are broadcasting live, your files must transmit the correct metadata for copyrighted content (Artist, Song Title). If you are part of the Ad Revenue Share Program, you need to also manually insert our ad trigger files.
