FTP stands for file transfer protocol. It is a quick way for you to upload entire folders full of tracks in one easy step. It can be faster than using the web-based upload tool in Live365.
The following example is for an FTP program called FTPCommander. You can use any number of free FTP programs to upload tracks to Live365. For the most part, the steps will be similar across most FTP clients. You can see another example here in our Help Desk for uploading via FTP using a program called Filezilla, for a similar process.
Step 1: Contact the Live365 Solutions Team for the FTP information required to upload files.
FTP upload details are not directly available within the Broadcaster interface. Please inquire directly with the Solutions team via a support ticket using the subject "FTP Login Request." Solutions can be reached by emailing email@example.com or by clicking here.
Once you receive a reply, copy and paste the information directly from the Live365 reply into the FTPCommander interface.
Step 2: Download and install a copy of FTPCommander
You can download a free copy of FTPCommander here. Once you’ve downloaded the file, open it to install the program.
Step 3: Open the FTPCommander program.
Step 4: In FTPCommander, click on the "New Server" button and enter the FTP info from Live365.
Clicking on the "New Server" button will open a new window in which you can add the FTP information from Live365.
The names of the fields differ slightly between the Live365 and the FTP Commander, the fields are as follows:
FTPCommander Name = Entering a name will help you find it in the list. Enter “Live365”
FTPCommander FTP Server = Live365 FTP IP
FTPCommander UserID = Live365 FTP Username
FTPCommander Password = Live365 FTP Password
FTPCommander FTP Port = Enter “21”
Once you’ve entered all the information in the FTP Server Properties window, click on the "Save" button in the top right corner of the window. You should see your newly created connection in the FTPCommander interface in the server list on the right. Double click on “Live365” in the server list on the right (because that’s what you just named it).
Step 5: Locate the files on your device in the FTPCommander pane on the left then drag the files from the pane on the left to the pane on the right.
In the FTPCommander pane on the left, locate the files from your device that you would like to upload to your Live365 library. Live365 will only accept files that are in .mp3 or .m4a formats. All other formats will be rejected. Please check the file types before uploading the tracks.
Once you’ve found the tracks that you want to upload, click and drag the tracks from the pane on the left to the pane on the right, as shown above. You can select multiple tracks at a time.
As soon as you’ve dragged the tracks to the pane on the right, you will see a dialogue appear that will let you see the progress of the tracks being uploaded.
Step 6: Check for the uploaded tracks in Live365.
You should now be able to see the tracks under the Media -> Tracks in the Live365 interface. They should appear as soon as they’ve finished uploading. You will need to amend the Categories and Track Types manually. You might also need to edit the metadata for your newly uploaded tracks. Once you have amended the tracks as needed, they will be ready for use.
